ECAP
Education and Career Action Plan
In response to a research based national movement in education, the Arizona Department of Education mandated in February of 2008 that all school districts provide an Education and Career Action Plan (ECAP) to each student beginning with the class of 2013. This ECAP document spans grades 9-12 and includes a record of the following components:
1. Academics: Planned coursework to meet graduation requirements and post-secondary educational goals.
2. Career: Exploration of career opportunities and needed educational requirements to meet post-secondary plan and options.
3. Postsecondary: Exploration of admission requirements, completed applications and financial assistance plans.
4. Extracurricular: Documentation of participation in clubs, athletics, fine arts, community service, work experiences and leadership activities.
The ECAP may follow a career pathway that a student has selected based on his/her academic, career, and personal abilities and interests. School counselors will help each student design, monitor and manage the ECAP. The Peoria Unified School District has had a similar document - previously known as the Four Year Plan - in place for many years, so students are already very familiar with this process. However, the ECAP process allows students to have more control of their plans as well as more information, resources, and opportunities at their disposal.
